Getting into town was easy by bus, so we left the car at the guesthouse instead of hunting for parking in York. The room was comfortable and spotless, and breakfast had lots of options. We also liked how tastefully the place was furnished. A great stay.

Breakfast was delicious, with plenty to choose from, and the owners were happy to help us find our way around. Our room was very clean and had thoughtful extras like tea, coffee, biscuits and bottled water. We felt welcome from the start and couldn't fault the stay.

After a full day's work in London, our train to York was delayed and we arrived late. We then got a barrage of agitated calls and texts from the owners. The B&B's 6pm check-in cutoff seems unrealistic and should be made much clearer. Other guests we asked hadn't known about it either, and it was omitted or played down in the online description, perhaps to avoid putting off bookings. None of the many calls and messages before we arrived had told us about the policy, so the owner's claim that we were “playing” him was bizarre. Burswood's owner greeted us with an angry dressing-down, questions about our explanation, and threats to cancel the room. The manager's way of speaking to guests was disgusting. That lack of professionalism, integrity and business sense needs serious attention. The location is noisy, the room quality is deteriorating, and the fire alarm system is faulty. The owner's arrogant, unprofessional attitude made the whole experience unforgivable.

The host was warm and welcoming, and the room was small but comfortable. It was meticulously clean. Just watch your head if you're tall, the ceiling in our room was really low. Still, a lovely stay.

We’ve been coming to York races for years, and this is the nicest place we’ve stayed. The racecourse is within walking distance, down the side of the Holiday Inn, so we’re hoping to book again next year. We stayed at burswood guesthouse for two nights and felt very welcome. It’s a quiet, pleasant and really comfy place, spotlessly clean, and breakfast was cooked perfectly.
