The staff were superb, friendly and knowledgeable. Shout out to Victor at breakfast. The hotel is beautifully maintained and furnished, and its Arts Deco look really comes through. It's within walking distance of York city and all the amenities. Ideal for a few nights away, and I'd definitely stay again.

We loved the old-world feel and wonderful atmosphere, and our first impressions were great. The room was extremely comfortable and the shower excellent. Breakfast was extensive and delicious. Getting into central York was straightforward, and the location was great. We only wish we'd booked a longer stay, but we'll definitely return.

The staff and service were fantastic from beginning to end. We were kindly upgraded to a junior suite on arrival, which was a lovely surprise. The room standards didn't quite match that hospitality, which was disappointing. There were several hairs on the bed linen, the bathroom bin hadn't been emptied, and the cups and glasses for hot drinks looked dusty and unclean. Some mugs were chipped or stained. Over our two-night stay, they didn't refill the sugar on the hospitality tray or leave clean glasses. The service was excellent, but the room cleanliness and attention to detail need work.

The old building can be noisy. We could hear people flushing the toilet and walking around, though it didn't bother me much. The location is good for the train station and bus, even if the area feels a little dark and poorly lit. Our ground-floor room was spacious, with lovely Art Deco decor, a very comfortable bed and soft pillows, which I prefer. The shower had good pressure and there was a nice selection of gels and other amenities. The toilet plumbing was a bit iffy, but nothing serious. The building itself has a quaint, cozy design, and the dining area and bar are beautiful. We had the full English breakfast, which was very good for a hotel and fairly priced. Staff were polite and cordial, if not especially enthusiastic. I'd recommend it for a nice stay.
