Friars Rest Guest House

Craig deserves a special mention for being so helpful and kind. The staff were friendly, helped us out with something we'd left behind, and even gave us tips on things to do in York. We stayed two nights and will surely come back on our next visit. The property is amazing, very clean, with well-maintained rooms and amazing hospitality.

The room was spacious, clean, and lovely, and we felt very welcome. We’d happily recommend the place and stay again when we’re back.

It felt very secure here, and getting in and out of the rooms was easy at any hour. There’s parking too. We had the ground-floor room at the front, with greenery and blue skies just outside the curtains, and it was spotlessly clean. The host was so friendly. The Shambles is about a 15-minute walk away, while takeaway is just a minute away; lots of other places are within half an hour on foot. Wherever we went, we were never more than 20 minutes from getting back. Thank you so much!

The one drawback was the construction next door, which starts at 8 in the morning. We’re both light sleepers, so we cancelled the second night of our two-night booking because of the noise. Steve handled it really professionally and was very kind about it. The guest house itself is cute and in a quiet area. It’s about 10 minutes from the city centre, with a nicer walk along the river. The room was spotless, the bed comfortable, and there were enough power outlets. Steve, the owner, was top-notch, with friendliness and service beyond what we expected. I’d recommend staying here for the great service and clean room, and would love to try it again next time.
