Grays Court

For a special occasion, I’d choose the Bow Room at Grays Court. It has a wonderful historic setting and polished, thoughtful service, without any stuffiness. The food is full of striking flavours and beautifully presented. This is probably the best restaurant experience in all of York, and I think it deserves a Michelin star.

The food at the Bow room restaurant was unforgettable: technically brilliant cooking that still lets the ingredients and seasonal flavours shine. The dining room has lovely views over the garden and city walls, and I really liked its decor and atmosphere. The staff knew their stuff and were witty, fun, proud of being from Yorkshire, and made us feel genuinely welcome. I’d love to come back and dine here again. Thank you.

We had a great meal at the restaurant, with lovely service, and breakfast was just as good. Our room was spacious, with a huge bathroom and all the amenities we needed. The service there was perfect too. We’d recommend both the hotel and restaurant, and will be back next time we’re in York.

We had the pleasure of staying in The Mortimer, a spacious, charming room with lovely views of the minster. The rooms have been updated without losing the building’s historic feel, and the hotel’s position behind York Minster puts it within easy reach of both the minster and the shambles. It’s the most wonderful hotel we’ve experienced, with the warmest, friendliest staff. Breakfast was very well done and offered plenty of choice. We also enjoyed chatting with some of the friendly guests in the beautiful bar and galley area. If you’re planning a York trip, stay here. It’s an experience you won’t forget.
