The evening meal was excellent, and so was breakfast, with gluten-free choices available. Staff were efficient and helpful, including when they dealt effectively with a noisy couple in the room above. Our room was compact but warm and comfortable, and I had to turn the radiators off. Good value for a small hotel within walking distance of the city. A couple of hooks for coats would help, and the ironing board took up hanging space in the built-in wardrobe because it was long and stood at an angle.

We had a standard twin room for three nights and paid about £176 for the two of us, which seemed reasonable. The room was modern, spacious and well equipped, with a Tassimo machine, complimentary minibar and decent free WiFi. The bathroom was small but fine, and the shower was passable. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the city, with a lovely butcher and baker next door selling fresh roast beef baps. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return. My one suggested improvement is breakfast: £12.50 per person felt very expensive when you can get it elsewhere for half the price.

The whole process was fantastic, especially for a last-minute Saturday plan, and the staff couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly. The hotel was clean and modern, and there was even a tiny fridge in the room, which I’d never come across before. I’d definitely recommend it.

We liked the location, with a short walk into the centre, and the staff handled emails and requests efficiently. The clean room was compact as expected, but the small double bed and very hard pillows made for two uncomfortable nights. It wasn’t as modern as described, the carpets didn’t fit well, and there was a strange assortment of equipment, including two kettles and two hair dryers. We were at the front, so it was quite noisy, and one bulb kept flickering. The small bathroom was nice and had a good shower, though it seemed to leak along the bottom. There wasn’t much interaction with staff. At checkout, nobody was there, and the man from the bar quickly took my key without even a pleasantry. They need more staff at checkout time. I love York, but I wouldn’t stay there again.

The mini bar and Tassimo in the room were a nice touch. We loved the clean room, which felt special, and the breakfast was delicious. I wish we’d tried the evening menu. It’s an easy walk into York centre, about 15 minutes along one road. A hidden gem, and we’d definitely stay again.
