Tbilisi Old Town

A really cool neighborhood, packed with history.

We’re a family of four, with kids aged 11 and 7, visiting from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We really liked this place for its strategic location and how well its history has been preserved.

We spent the week based in a quiet dead-end lane in Sololaki, just off Giorgi Leonidze Street. It was peaceful, but only a short walk from Liberty Square, so getting out to explore Tbilisi on foot each day was easy. We covered a lot of ground, walking both the flat avenues and the historic hills. Near our doorstep were Sololaki’s weathered 19th-century mansions, courtyards, and carved wooden balconies. We also wandered side streets like Shalva Dadiani Street, where old-world charm sits alongside a creative, modern feel. After several days of walking, we headed down to Abanotubani for a private sulfur bath at Chreli Abano, with its iconic mosaic front. For food, Saxlis Gemo (Home Taste) was a lovely introduction to hearty, authentic Georgian home cooking. Salobie Bia was a highlight, serving rustic dishes like slow-cooked beans in clay pots with fresh herbs and careful preparation, after a local recommended it. At Soda, we sat on the terrace with Georgian Chardonnay and fresh olives, chatting with the owner. It was a lovely example of the city’s personal hospitality. When the hills got too steep or we needed to cross town, Bolt rides made getting around easy without wearing out our legs.

The room and service were great, and the place is close to the old town. For what it costs, it’s a real bargain!
