Charleston Hotel

A modest three-star hotel that seems clean and affordable. A real bargain if you’re on a budget.

The staff were lovely and friendly, and my room was immaculate. Parking felt secure and was good. The hotel is a bit out of the way and not the easiest place to find.

The cleaning staff work really hard, and I found the hotel’s design and decor interesting. But for an international guest, the place felt like a 1-2 star stay. My room had no nightstands or dresser, the wall lamps had been removed with wires left sticking out, and the beds were very low to the floor. The menu had no international dishes and many items were unavailable. I’d been looking forward to the jollof, but it was horrible. The fish we were served was about the size of my hands, and I couldn’t bring myself to eat it because it felt like a baby fish. Breakfast wasn’t worth the time; fruit was the best option. Locals warned us not to take an Uber out at night, saying it wasn’t safe.

We stayed at The Charleston Hotel in Accra from November 23rd through the 25th of 2023, during a 16-day trip that included three different hotels. I honestly wished I could have spent the entire time in Ghana here. The neighborhood to the west of the city is quiet, and the hotel and surrounding area are clean and well kept. I felt safe there. The bed was really comfortable, the bathroom was clean and in very good order, and the staff were friendly and focused. I’d happily return next year.
