We spent ten days at Hotel Arctic on our second trip to Greenland, this time in winter, and the landscape was breathtaking again. The place really feels like the end of the world, so the comfort was a surprise. The hotel has been thought through carefully, and the Northern Lights cabins are a highlight. You can hear the wind at night, then wake to spectacular views of the sea and icebergs. The rooms are very well equipped, with beautifully designed bathrooms, adjustable beds, a desk, a minibar, and everything needed for a comfortable stay. The food was outstanding too, which I didn’t expect in such a remote place. The team is working toward a star-level standard, and I hope they make it.

The service team were highly professional, and we thoroughly enjoyed our evenings at the restaurant. After 42 years working in the hotel industry myself, I’m glad to experience staff who are so dedicated. A big part of the quality is Martin, the restaurant manager. He’s a true host, passionate and professional, with an exceptional eye for detail. He knows guests personally, gives excellent advice, and has outstanding wine knowledge. I’ve rarely met someone who brings together such joy in the work and such deep expertise. He deserves a great compliment. The culinary experience was outstanding for such a remote location. The team is clearly aiming for a star-level standard, and I truly hope they succeed.

Everyone at the hotel was extremely friendly, and breakfast was very nice, with a good choice of sweet and savory food. We stayed five nights in February 2026 and had a room with an excellent view. We saw the Northern Lights almost every night right from bed. There are several room types, including some very cool-looking Aurora cabins, but for us they weren’t worth twice the price of a regular double room. There’s also a nice games and books room. I left six of the books I’d brought on the trip there, and I hope you enjoy them.

It’s a good location, and the apartment has stunning views, but there’s no navigation and it’s very unclear how to find it. There’s also a ridiculously dangerous low-hanging lamp right above the sofa. I’ve hit it hard three times already. On our third day, staff still hadn’t collected the room service tray with dirty plates. I’m not taking it back to the restaurant. We paid a lot for food that was so-so, and I’m not carrying it up stairs, down the icy layover, along the dirt road, up stairs again, across the main building, down the elevator, through reception, and all the way to the restaurant. I’ve told both the restaurant staff and housekeeping, but no one seems to care about the tray. I wonder how many others are scattered around the hotel.
