The view over Disko Bay keeps changing, so there’s an incredible new scene to wake up to each day. The hotel’s location is phenomenal. I looked forward to the delicious breakfast and French press coffee, and lunch and dinner were beautifully presented. Service was great, the rooms very clean, and the beds comfortable.

The restaurant serves great local food, including crab and deer burgers, as well as Greenland beer. It’s a great hotel for exploring the area and watching the sunset, with friendly service and comfy rooms. Some rooms have a skylight for looking up at the night sky, and the balconies are perfect for a warm drink and blanket while watching the icebergs drift by.

I didn’t stay overnight, but I enjoyed the restaurant and the view from the hotel. The food was great, and I took a lovely walk back to the hotel on the other side of Ilulissat with that great view along the way.

The staff are often described as friendly and helpful, assisting guests with tours and transfers. There are occasional Wi-Fi drops in distant corners of the building, and some guests on longer stays mention limited breakfast variety, but the service is generally welcoming and attentive. Hotel Icefiord, at J. Sverdrupip Aqq. 10 in Ilulissat, sits on the coast with uninterrupted views of Kangia (Ilulissat) Icefjord and Disko Bay. It’s a short way from the town center and a few minutes from the airport, with a free shuttle. Almost every room faces the sea, where you may see drifting icebergs or whales. Rooms are warm and cozy after a day outdoors. Many guests like the deluxe rooms with balconies or skylights, where you can watch the midnight sun in summer or Northern Lights in winter without getting out of bed. The restaurant serves fresh local dishes, breakfast is often praised for its taste and panoramic dining-room views, and there’s a lounge and terrace for a drink and the Arctic scenery. Ilulissat is north of the Arctic Circle and has a tundra climate. Summers are cool, averaging 5-11°C, so light layers are useful even in the warmest months. Winters are long and cold, often below -10°C. January averages around -17°C, with extreme lows of -30°C or less. Even so, the low humidity can make the air feel less harsh than expected, and winter skies often show spectacular auroras. The hotel brings together comfort, dramatic surroundings, and an Arctic atmosphere. In summer you can see the endless daylight and icebergs; in winter, the Northern Lights.

The location is excellent, but the rooms seemed to be tidied rather than properly cleaned, with rubbish just taken out. Breakfast could use a better hot-food selection. There were only eggs, and sometimes pancakes or bacon, which were cold. Sometimes there was nothing hot at all.
