We were upgraded from Old Camp to Polar Lodge and saw the northern lights from our window. The location by the airport is brilliant. It’s more comfortable than a youth hostel, but basic for a hotel, which is fine. Kangerlussuaq doesn’t have cheap options, and this should meet your needs unless you’re fussy. The rooms and shared bathrooms were clean, warm, and well maintained. Breakfast was simple but satisfactory, and you can cook there. The supermarket is just a few minutes away on foot. If you’re taking tours with AAC, both the Russell Glacier and Ice Cap trips are excellent, with pick-ups at several places including Polar Lodge. Beyond organized tours, there isn’t much else for tourists to do in Kangerlussuaq.

Are you talking about Polar Lodge as a real place or as an idea? It sounds like a possible name for a cabin or lodge somewhere Arctic or cold and remote. Maybe you mean a winter-themed hotel, or an actual lodge in a polar region. Let me know what you have in mind!

The only real advantage of this hotel is how close it is to the airport. I found it much too expensive for the quality, which felt below even a one-star hotel. Kangerlussuaq is a tiny town, though, and decent places to stay are hard to find. A warning from my experience: don’t book this hotel through Agoda or Expedia. I booked Polar Lodge in the Agoda app and paid in full several months before my trip. When I arrived, the hotel said there was no reservation under my name. I called Agoda customer service right away. They sent several different reference numbers and told me to show them to reception. Expedia, which is Agoda, called the hotel, and I stood there listening while the hotel staff kept saying they had no booking. It was incredibly frustrating. I had to pay again on site to check in, even though I’d already paid in full through Agoda. I needed somewhere to stay that night, and there weren’t many alternatives in town. Later, Agoda customer service messaged me that the hotel manager had marked me as a no-show because I hadn’t reported a late arrival, and that they couldn’t refund me. I arrived at 5 pm on the reservation date, after being told there was no booking under my name. Can that really be their explanation? So frustrating. When I went back to Polar Lodge after a tour, reception told me they sometimes have this sort of problem with Expedia. The customer ends up with an unexpected, unwelcoming situation in a small town and may have to pay twice. Neither Polar Lodge nor Agoda (Expedia) seemed to care about my situation. It’s bad enough that I had such a poor experience, and it was also very difficult to find another option in this tiny town.

It was nice to have a basic free breakfast and be able to use the kitchen. The rooms were clean, especially the bathrooms, and they weren’t busy in early June. It’s very close to the airport and supermarket, which is almost everything in Kangerlussuaq.

The staff were friendly, and breakfast was good. Polar Lodge is a three-minute walk to the left of Kangerlussuaq Airport. The rooms are simply furnished, since most tourists stay only one or two nights before flying on to other places in Greenland.
