They cancelled our booking the day before the trip, even though we’d reserved six months ahead and had been in touch about check-in just the week before. They said they’d overbooked, but why wait until the day before to tell me? I don’t believe that explanation. I had to find somewhere else to stay the day before our flight. Santorini accommodation is expensive at that point, and the options were very limited. It was incredibly stressful. They never explained how the overbooking happened, and I can’t help wondering if they found someone willing to pay more and deliberately left me in the lurch. If you want peace of mind, look elsewhere.

The black beach setting is beautiful, and the hotel feels cozy, with clean rooms and really friendly service. It’s a good place to get away from the rest of the world, especially if you don’t want to stay in the island’s touristy area. Just know that shops and restaurants are far away: you’ll need a car or quad, and the first supermarket is a 50-minute walk. There’s also a stray cat outside that I found very annoying. It sleeps on the sunbeds, and since I’m allergic to cats, that made the stay stressful for me.

We loved spending four nights here. The area is peaceful and beautiful, and a family taverna is just steps away. Our suite had what we needed to cook, and the bed was really comfortable. Akrotiri is about an hour on foot, but the walk is worth it for sightseeing and groceries. The manager treated us wonderfully, and relaxing on the veranda with the resident cat was hard to beat. Highly recommend.
