We visited in August 2025. When winds on Karpathos are over 30 km/h, Votsalakia Beach is a good option. The sea was very clean and snorkeling was excellent. There are toilets at nearby restaurants, but no changing rooms or showers. Amoopi parking, a free area just above the beach, is government property even though the sign says private. A parasol and two sunbeds cost €20. If you want an extra bed with a parasol and two beds, Calypso charges €10. In ten years of visiting Greece, I've never seen that policy, and found it absolutely unreasonable. The parasols belonging to Calypso Restaurant are largely reserved by Italian tourists, which was frustrating. After 10:30, don't expect to find one, as they're all taken, with many permanently reserved. A polite request to Italian visitors: please keep your voices down, you're not alone on the beach.

Votsalakia is one of the nicest beaches in Karpathos, with plenty of pebbles that give it its name. It's a highlight of the island and a lovely place to relax.

The scenery at Votsalakia Beach is amazing, and it's a peaceful place for anyone who enjoys nature and the sea. It's rocky but very beautiful, with crystal-clear water that's great for snorkeling and looking around underwater.

The water is clear and visibility is good, with shoals of small and midsized fish and plenty of rock formations to explore underwater. It gets a bit steep, down to around 4m and then about 7m. Worth exploring in the morning or around midday, since visibility is pretty poor after 5 p.m. It's a nice pebble beach, mostly set up with sunbeds and umbrellas. There's a small space on the left near the rocks for a few towels, and a small cove next to it.

The beach is beautiful and protected from the wind, so it can be good for swimming and snorkeling on windy days. But in high season it fills up very early, with parasols taking over all the space and nowhere to put a towel. People renting the parasols still demand payment late in the evening, and their attitude isn't very polite. I wouldn't recommend visiting at that time of year. There's no free space for people who don't want to pay for an umbrella.
