Alter Ego Apartments

We spent 30 days traveling around Greece and stayed at eight hotels. Alter Athens was our first stop, and it turned out to be the most memorable and the best one of the trip. The rooms were clean, spacious, and had everything we needed. The owner, Aristo, made the place feel like home. He welcomed us with drinks, kept checking that we had what we needed, and went above and beyond for our requests. He was so kind and charming that I felt compelled to hug him when we left. Such a tremendous host, and I can’t recommend the place enough.

We’d happily stay again. It’s a comfortable, cool, friendly hotel in a great spot, with lovely decor and really comfortable beds. The staff were lovely too, always up for a chat and a drink together. It’s in the alternative neighbourhood of Exarchia, which felt friendly and cool, with some great restaurants, bars, and cafes. The centre is just a short walk away.

Alter Athens is clean and comfortable, in a nice neighbourhood just outside the tourist zone, but still easy to get everywhere. Aristos was a wonderful host, always ready with coffee, retsina, restaurant suggestions, and general advice. A well-traveled friend recommended it without hesitation, and they were right!

The hostess made us feel welcome and comfortable the whole time, and gave us great advice on things to do in Athens and elsewhere in Greece. Early one Sunday morning, he arranged a taxi to port Rafina and made me a very strong espresso, which I badly needed. We enjoyed staying here and will book it again when I return to Athens.
