The staff were really helpful, even when I arrived late. My room was clean, a good size, and had a comfortable bed. It’s less than a 10 min walk from the metro, and the window had a fantastic view.
We really appreciated that our room was cleaned every day. The room was lovely, the facilities beautiful, and the service was always timely and helpful. We had an amazing experience at Athens Gem and will definitely return. Thanks for everything.
We stayed at the Athens Gem recently, having also been there in September 2024. It’s well placed for the key parts of central Athens and priced reasonably compared with more expensive hotels. But as Americans, we found it uncomfortable that reception wasn’t open 24 hours. At check-in, we were told the card reader wasn’t working, so payment had to be in cash or by wire transfer. For people without Greek bank accounts, transfers are difficult and can cost money. Depending on the length of your stay, the bill may also mean carrying quite a lot of cash. We didn’t have enough, and for several days they kept pressing us to pay. Eventually a friend with a Greek bank account paid for us, and we reimbursed him. One night, a hotel representative even woke us at 2220 to demand payment. That payment stress was the only bad part of our Athens trip. Book this hotel at your own risk.
Athens Gem ruined my first impression of Greece. They present it as a fully functioning hotel with breakfast and services, but it turned out to be an apartment, with no staff, reception, or security. If you want a hotel, this isn’t one. I stayed a single night, felt unsafe, and left early. When I requested a refund, they refused, reported me as a no-show, and cancelled my reservation. I found the way they treated customers unacceptable, rude, unprofessional, and dishonest. They mislead clients, and I strongly advise others to avoid this place.
We could reach someone from Athen‘s Gem whenever we needed help, even late at night, and they sorted out a couple of issues that had nothing to do with the hotel. The staff were also quick to fix Expedia’s booking error: although there were three of us, we’d been assigned a double room, so they brought in an extra bed at no charge. The rooms were spacious and clean. The hotel is near a pleasant area to the west, though the centre takes a bit of walking to reach. If you’d rather avoid public transport, plan on a taxi or plenty of walking.
