Hotel Rio Athens

We booked a family room, but the woman at the front desk was very rude and made us take another room. The mattresses were dirty, with red stains all over them. The hotel also isn’t in a desirable part of Athens. If you’re only staying briefly or waiting for your cruise, try another hotel.

The staff were friendly, but the hotel’s physical condition let the place down. The lobby curtains looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. Our room’s air conditioning didn’t work, so we opened all the windows and got traffic noise all night. There was no holder for the handheld showerhead either.

For our last day in Athens, we booked a day room and it had what we needed. The room was okay, and even though the air conditioning was weak, it made things cooler and more comfortable than outside. The bathtub leaked a little, but it wasn’t a big problem. The hotel is well placed near a metro station, handy for sightseeing. Reception isn’t open 24 hours, so you may have to wait at the door. For the price, it was good value, and you get what you pay for.

I was meant to stay one night, but the hotel was so awful that I couldn’t. The air conditioning was broken, the safe didn’t work, and water leaked through the bathroom ceiling. You also have to leave your room key when you go out. Worst of all was the owner or manager, a rude man. When I told him the safe wasn’t working and that I couldn’t leave my keys, he insulted me and nearly hit me. I should have reported him to the police, but I didn’t have enough time before my flight the next morning. Please don’t stay here. The owner or manager is very dangerous.
