Tempi Hotel

The staff were very warm and helpful, including arranging a taxi to the airport for me. The big draw is the location: right among Athens’ popular attractions and neighborhoods, in lively Monastiraki, with plenty of places to explore, socialize, and have fun. It’s also close to two major train stations. This is an inexpensive, no-frills stay, and it’s great if you set your expectations accordingly. Rooms are small, and bathrooms and showers are shared, but the A/C worked well and room service brought clean toiletries and towels every day. One thing to know: the lift carries luggage only, so you’ll need to use the stairs. I was on the fifth floor, and it was a mini workout each time. After all the food I ate, I needed it.

The rooms were clean and the receptionists were really kind. Being right in the centre made it a bit noisy at night, but we definitely loved our stay.

The woman who owns the place is lovely, and the terrace on the fifth floor has a nice view. The location is great. That’s about all the good I can say about this stay. The room, number 26, was the last one on the fifth floor. It looked like a prison cell, without A/C or a TV, and the awful gray color made the rooms look ugly. After hours of walking and sightseeing, getting up to the fifth floor was tough. I’m in pretty good shape, but there’s no elevator for people. Don’t book those rooms. The sheets felt humid all the time, so I slept on a blanket. The cleaning woman made the bed every day until I asked her to stop, but never cleaned the room. There was garbage and dirty stuff when I first arrived, and still on my last day. She also kept moving my things after I’d put them where I wanted, four times. The shared kitchen was closed before “quiet time,” though this was nowhere stated. I went there before 7h and was told to come back later. I shouldn’t have to be told when I can get hungry or make tea, then go back to the fifth floor and come down for a third time. The Wi-Fi was painfully slow, and I had to leave my room to connect. I don’t recommend this place. It was one of my worst experiences, despite having stayed in 60 countries and countless hotels, hostels, and apartments. I’m not demanding, for example, my stay in Thessaloniki got an 8.6.

It’s a small hotel in a great location, and everyone at reception was helpful. Just be aware there’s no passenger elevator, only one for luggage. The hotel sits beside a square where music and crowds continue until 1 or 2 am.
