UPSTREET Desirable 1BD Apt in Kolonaki

We stayed for five nights in the quiet season, and though the hotel wasn’t busy, we got a poor room with no view. It was extremely hot, and the temperature was controlled centrally. I told the staff several times, but nothing changed. We had to keep the window open at night, but a noisy generator right outside meant we slept badly every night. The website heavily promotes the rooftop view, yet we were told the roof was closed and weren’t even allowed up to see it.

We came for the rooftop bar and its view, and both delivered. You can see a huge stretch of Athens, the service was great, and the drinks were good, though a little pricey. The hotel looks beautiful, and the neighbourhood around it is a cool little area. There’s also lots of history connected with the Hollywood stars who stayed there for the film festival.

Getting to many of the main attractions means taking a taxi or tackling the hill. The rooms were nice, though not very well insulated, so we could hear people in the hallway and neighbouring rooms. Still, everything was clean, breakfast was included with plenty of good choices, and the rooftop had an amazing view across the city with the Acropolis clearly in sight. A lovely stay at St George.

We had such a nice time at SGL, and saying goodbye was hard. The view from our room kept drawing us back, from morning through sunset and into the evening. The location felt like a lovely mix of city elegance and forest surroundings. Staff were friendly throughout, the included breakfast featured delicious Greek specialties, and dinner was a whole experience. It felt like the best hotel in Athens to us. Thank you, SGL!
