Zeus Hostel

The rooftop was nice, and I didn’t have any bed bugs during my stay. The price and location are appealing, but there’s no kitchen, cutlery, or activities. I stayed in a women-only room, which was a good choice, but the shower area still wasn’t separate. A weak, partly see-through frosted glass panel divides the men’s and women’s showers, with the next naked person only a foot away. It’s easy to look over, and there’s no alarm cord like the ones commonly found in hostels for this reason. When I raised what seemed like an obvious concern, the daytime front desk worker was dismissive.

The staff were kind and accommodating, and I slept surprisingly well despite a bed that felt a bit like a rock. It was hard, though. The shared bathrooms were fairly clean, but shared. There was no TV or other entertainment in the room, and it felt stuffy and hot. The AC barely worked and seemed to make it hot too. The stay was okay overall.

The staff were kind and helpful, and the location was good, but I found bed bugs everywhere. I left after one night. They refunded the other three nights and handled it politely, which I appreciated. I’ve never had my skin react like that to a bed. The rash from the sheets and the dirty, itchy wool blanket kept me from sleeping, and the next day my hair was itchy and I had bites all over. I wouldn’t risk it. There are nicer hostels at the same price a little farther from the centre.

For thirteen euro a night, I felt it was good value, and I stayed for a week. The rooms have no more than four beds, which is a plus. It’s close to Omnia metro station and a bus stop. The rooms and toilets could use better cleaning, and the kitchen is open at the top of the fourth floor.
