Residenza Vranas Boutique Hotel

We loved our first trip to Chania, Crete, and this was the perfect place to stay. George, the hotel manager, was helpful and accommodating, and the whole staff was so kind. Our two-bedroom suite looked over the old harbor and lighthouse across the Aegean sea. Sitting in the living room and watching the sunrise and sunset was so relaxing. Breakfast was delicious, and the hotel sits right in the heart of the old harbor, surrounded by shops and restaurants, with everything within walking distance. We enjoyed our stay so much. We’ll definitely return and highly recommend it.

The staff and service were great, and breakfast was nice every morning. The location is great if you want to be in the heart of Chania. Our mid-tier room was good, but lacked basics like a sink and kitchenette. Construction next door was pretty bad during working hours. Even so, we had a pretty good stay and would recommend it.

Our family of four from NY stayed three nights here after Santorini and Malia, on the opposite end of Crete. We booked the penthouse, which gives you a spacious two-level layout with two sleeping areas. Its rooftop terrace, available only with the penthouse, was the highlight, with beautiful views across the harbor. The hotel is a high-end boutique spot right on the old town harbor, with a phenomenal location and majestic views. The decor mixes rustic exposed stone walls with a modern kitchen, sliders, doors, and staircase. The AC worked well in peak Summer, breakfast was very good and on time each morning, and room service was thorough and on time late am every day. The staff were friendly and helpful, arranging taxis when needed. Our driver George was excellent. A few annoyances: there’s no elevator, and our heavy bags had to be carried up three floors without staff help. The ceiling by the bathroom in the second-floor bedroom is very low, so watch your head. The AC in that bedroom is right next to the bed and blows in your face all night, which makes no sense. Also, at peak season in the middle of the day, you can’t drive up to the hotel because the narrow alleys are pedestrian-only, so there’s a short walk through the crowd with your luggage. Even with those smaller issues, we highly recommend this spectacular boutique hotel.

The balcony view is beautiful, and the location is stunning. The staff were nice in person, but after check-out they didn’t respond to emails or phone calls. I only found out at 1 am that the Jacuzzi didn’t work. The downstairs shower leaked badly across the bathroom floor, nearly flooding it. There were a few other substandard things too, including cracked windows and missing blanking plates on the electrical sockets. Salt, pepper, olive oil, washing-up liquid, and a cloth would have been nice additions. I emailed and sent WhatsApp messages to the manager and got no reply. Aside from these issues, the place is quite nice. Hopefully management will sort them out and provide better service to future guests.
