The location really makes this place: it's on a lovely little street right beside the Venetian Harbour. The staff were very friendly, and the mattress was very good. I rented a single room for one night. It's simple but clean, with AC, a kettle, and the other basic amenities. I'd recommend it if plain furniture and decor don't bother you.

Talos Square is close by for parking, and even in high season the price was affordable. The rooms were very clean and cozy. They're so close to the centre of Chania that you just step outside onto a characteristically Cretan street and take it from there.

Nick greeted us warmly and gave us great tips for restaurants and beaches. We spent two nights at Smaragdi Rooms. The room isn't large, but it was comfortable, and the location is wonderful.

Mr Plaka, the host's partner, was cheerful and accommodating when we checked in and out. I think that's his name. Smaragdi is an excellent central base for the Venetian Harbour and pretty much everything in Chania, yet it's surprisingly quiet given where it is.
