Atlantis

A bit dated, but inexpensive.

There were three of us and our dog in a very spacious triple room for eight nights at the end of August. We booked at the last minute. It’s an old building on a street with steps, and our small balcony looked out over the port. At least on the ground floor where we stayed, the room was very cool. We could get around easily from there, and the price for those dates was very good. Mr. Tasos was kind and helpful. The bathroom was clean and well equipped, and we had a kitchenette, TV, air conditioning that we didn’t need, and WiFi. My only complaint was the single bed, which had a box spring and seemed suitable for someone of average weight. Every two days they changed the sheets and towels, which were smelly, put out new toilet paper, took the rubbish, and vacuumed well. We also sorted out the recyclables ourselves. We’ve been to Syros many times as a family, but the places we stayed in before have either closed for good or been taken over by companies. Mr. Tasos is trying to run this place on his own, even though he rents the building. Yes, we’d happily return to the same hotel.

The hotel is in an alley above the port road, around 200 meters from where the ferries arrive. It’s a traditional old building and was clean. The balcony was the real highlight, with room for two people and a table, looking out over the narrow street and the sea. Mr. Anastasis was the hotel’s trump card. He was kind and helped us get to know Ermoupolis.

Really awful. The room looked much better in the photos, but in person it was the worst. It was very dirty, especially the bathroom, and seemed like it hadn’t been cleaned at all. Definitely don’t stay there.
