Kastro Hotel

The location is excellent, right in the center, and breakfast deserves five stars too. The woman serving it is so sweet and hardworking. There’s freshly squeezed orange juice, Greek mezédes, pastries, fruit, yogurt parfaits you can customize, scrambled eggs and sausage, coffee machines, and a station where pancakes are made to order. Sleeping can be a bit loud because the corridors echo and there’s no soundproofing. Maybe some unruly Americans were making a racket too. Otherwise, it’s lovely.

The central location is convenient, the staff are friendly, and breakfast was satisfactory. But the Kastro Hotel doesn’t deserve its “fabulous” Booking rating. The rooms are poorly soundproofed, and we heard both neighboring rooms and airplanes. The photos showing a terrace and city view didn’t match what we got: our room was very basic and cramped, with no outdoor space.

We’ll definitely come back. The hotel is very close to the city center, with tasty, fresh breakfast, clean modern rooms, and a very comfortable bed. There’s an arrangement for daily parking a one-minute walk away, at €12 per day.

We had a room on the top floor, which gave us direct access to the roof deck. The hotel is modern, with very clean, well-designed rooms that feel spacious for two and a bit luxurious for the price. The bathroom had great water pressure, and the staff were responsive around the clock. It’s an easy walk from the center of Heraklion and the main attractions. A taxi from the airport was €18. Breakfast is included and quite decent, and there’s luggage storage and an elevator. The one downside is hearing airplanes taking off from Herkalion at all hours, even with ear plugs.
