Guests can enjoy a swimming pool with views of the Cretan Sea and mountains. Breakfast and dinner, prepared with fresh local ingredients and homemade sweets, are provided. All rooms are equipped with a refrigerator, TV, Wi-Fi, hairdryer, kettle, and telephone. The hotel reception offers information on car and bike rentals, as well as excursions throughout Crete. Hersonissos' golden beaches, shops, taverns, and cafes are just a short distance away. Heraklion city is 26 km from the hotel, and the airport is 23 km away. Ano Hersonissos is an excellent choice for a memorable holiday.

We booked three nights through Booking.com, then got a WhatsApp from the owner on arrival day asking for a 30 EUR “overnight tax” in cash because his POS terminal supposedly wasn't working. Our Booking.com reservation said all fees were included. The charge described as an overnight tax was actually listed as a 20 EUR environmental tax, already part of the price. When we questioned the extra amount, the owner said Booking had made a mistake and insisted on 10 EUR per night. That would have come to 10 EUR extra altogether, not the 30 EUR he had first asked for. We later checked with local business owners, who confirmed the overnight tax had been replaced by the environmental tax. They said any issue from a policy change should be sorted out between the property and Booking.com. If guests had to pay more, Booking would contact them directly, rather than the owner asking for cash.

The pool and dining area were pleasant, parking on the street was easy, and it's a short walk to the old town. We were out at the beaches and on day trips during the day, so the boys using the pool didn't bother us much, though other guests were getting splashed and clearly couldn't relax. My daughter wanted to use the inflatables one day, but the local teenage boys were always playing on them, and staff didn't make sure they were considerate of other guests. The rooms were noisy. We could hear people talking upstairs and in the hall early in the morning, and even coughing in the bathrooms through the vent. The hallway lights didn't work, so it was very dark getting to our room. The older building was okay but had very thin, uncomfortable cot-style mattresses and could use a remodel. What really put me off was how the staff handled our request for a room in the newer building. There are newer and older buildings, and although they had availability, they first refused and the owner just said, “sorry that's what you booked.” My husband found a room in the newer building available on the website, and they eventually moved us, but charged extra. The hospitality felt badly lacking. The staff had an odd vibe with each other and with guests, and seemed jaded, unwelcoming and unwilling to accommodate. Breakfast was okay, but items ran out quickly and weren't replenished. It was mostly basic grocery-store food. One morning we chose a shady table for the three of us because it was very hot and I didn't want my child sunburned. A staff member seemed annoyed and almost argued with me about the choice, which felt very strange.

We booked through booking.com, then the owner messaged the day before arrival asking for another 30 euros, or 10 euros per night, as an “overnight stay tax.” We looked into it and found that the government had abolished that tax in 2023 and replaced it with an “environmental tax.” The 20 euros for that tax were already included in the price we paid on booking.com. When challenged, the owner blamed a Booking.com mistake, but we felt this was his doing. It seemed he was trying to get 30 extra euros from us using the old tax, on top of the 20 euros already included for the environmental tax. We chose not to stay at Mitos and found somewhere else where we weren't charged the extra 30 euros. Don't trust the owner. Shame on you!

We really liked the breakfast buffet, with loads to choose from, and it's an easy walk to the square in Old Hersonissos with plenty of tavernas for dinner. The hotel was clean and lovely, and we got a warm welcome with a refreshing elderflower mocktail. Our room was spacious, the bed comfortable and the shower good. The pool was a nice size, and there was a small playground with a slide and swing for our toddler.
