Veranda View Adults Only Hotel

We stayed a full week and I would never stay here again. After speaking with staff throughout the week, I finally gave the manager my feedback on the last day. He was arrogant and defensive instead of listening or trying to make things right, and management did nothing to improve our stay. Please find somewhere else in this beautiful area. The photos and marketing are very deceiving. The listing shows three rooms, but the room you get depends on staff or availability. We were in #1, which was incredibly tiny and badly laid out for two people and two bags. It was noisy, with stairs above and people constantly rolling luggage along the busy walking street overhead. The full size bed was too small and sloped toward the middle. Internet rarely worked, and when it did it was very slow, taking about 5 minutes to download a boarding pass. The larger room shown has no windows. We were offered the lofted room after complaining, but it was even more cramped, so ours seemed the lesser of two evils. The terraces aren’t private, and there really isn’t privacy at all. The listing and billing also suggest an affiliation with On The Rocks Hotel, but you don’t get standard things like room service. To reach the small pool and bar, you have to walk up and down 100+ stairs, about 300 meters, and towels aren’t offered. Daily housekeeping was included, but the products had a horrible chemical smell and we had to air out the room before going back in. On The Rocks charged me in two separate installments more than a month apart, without my awareness or approval. I expected to be charged the full amount right away, so the charges on my card came as a shock. Basic things were missing: no wine opener, no bottled water even though the room water isn’t potable, dirty robes, no outdoor seat cushions, and little attention to the shared outdoor space. At checkout, nobody helped us carry bags up the stairs, though we did get help at check-in.

I think I stayed in the loveliest part of Santorini. Imerovigli is adorable, and my apartment was right in the middle, with nice sea and Caldera views even from the bed. The bed was on the mezzaine, which I didn’t mind, though it could be a problem for much taller people. The staff were really kind and accommodating. There’s also a pool about two minutes away. The large studio would be great for people with kids. The rooms are clean, nicely decorated, and well equipped for having breakfast on the balcony. It’s good value for the area, and Veranda View has an amazing view of Caldera. The owner, Antonia, is the sweetest, most welcoming person on the island. She lives there in winter and can give great advice about making the most of a long weekend.

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel. It wasn’t worth the money. You get a veranda or balcony with the room, but the sunset is on the other side of the building. The reception was awful, and although they call it a 4star hotel, the amenities didn’t feel like that. I asked for a phone charger because European chargers are different from America’s, but they refused to provide one. The other hotels I stayed in oia were very helpful. I had to buy a charger in the middle of the night. I wouldn’t recommend the location either, I’d rather stay in fira or oia.
