The Royal Grand Hotel

The location is really convenient: the blue bus stops right outside and reaches town in 15 minutes for €2, with restaurants and beaches nearby. We had a great time at Skyview Bar too. Planes can be noisy as they take off and land right by the hotel, though it’s not constant and I got used to it easily. Reception helped us book a boat tour around paxos and antipaxos, which was the highlight of our holiday. Breakfast was delicious, and the cleaning ladies did a great job every day, leaving fresh towels. The staff were wonderful and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and safe. Fantastic stay in Corfu, I’d definitely come back.

The one good part was breakfast. Getting around was convenient enough: a taxi to Corfu town was about €10-15, and the bus back cost €1.80. On arrival, my reservation wasn’t recorded. After I contacted the manager, the receptionist found us a room, but its condition was unacceptable for a hotel of this standard. The toilet didn’t work, the shower was rusty, the hallway floor was damaged, the entrance door wouldn’t close properly, and the balcony window was broken. The bunk bed mattress was so bad you might as well sleep on the floor. The pool photos were attractive, but in person weeds were growing between the paving stones. The place is marketed well, yet maintenance is clearly lacking. Very disappointing.

I loved the rooms, food, and staff, and thought it was excellent value for money. Watching the planes take off was fun for me, and the noise didn’t bother me, though that’s just my opinion and it could be different for someone else. I’ll go back. No need to try another hotel now.

The room had no running water because it was leaking down the inside of the lift shaft, and there were pubic hairs on the bed. The balcony door handle was broken, so it wouldn’t open. By the end, we left and booked somewhere else, but the hotel and Love Holidays have both refused to refund the hotel cost. Disgusting place. Within an hour of arriving, we were trapped in the lift. I got an electric shock from the buttons while trying to get out. The pool was dirty and unsafe, with a huge drop into the children’s pool and a ladder marked unsafe for adults. My child slipped on the adult pool steps and nearly drowned. The poolside toilets had no lights and were backed up with faeces. The seating area was overgrown, and there was no music or bar outside by the pool, which you had to cross the road to reach. Don’t pay extra for a Seaview room. They mean runway view, and the air traffic noise is terrible.
