Camping Paleochora

The manager was the real highlight for me, such a lovely person, and I was lucky to meet him. The staff were friendly and helpful too. It’s a wonderful campsite with everything you could want for a nature getaway. Thank you so much!

We got lovely walks into town, and in autumn the parking lot is a great spot to catch amazing sunrises. The site has plenty of olive trees for shade, plus spacious, clean sanitary buildings. We arrived after sunset, well past the end of the season, but the campsite was open and check-in was easy.

We had such a good time that we came back the following year. The site felt welcoming right away, and renting one of their tents with all the necessary gear made it easy for my husband and me to try camping while visiting South Crete. The pitches are spacious, and the campsite itself isn’t too big. The newer toilets and showers are especially large and clean, and the bathrooms always had soap, toilet paper and tissues. The kitchen has a fridge and freezer, though they get a bit crowded, plus two dishwashing sinks and a three burner stove. By reception there’s a machine with nicely tasting chilled drinking water, so there’s no need to buy and cool your own. The owners cook and serve tasty food at the restaurant. Antonia is often busy in the kitchen or restaurant, but she’ll help whenever you need something. She’s an amazing, lovely woman. The one annoying part was the large groups of young foreign visitors who stayed for a few days. When they were there, the toilets, showers and kitchen got crowded. Apart from that, we had no complaints.

I could hear and see the goats climbing the mountain while I showered, and there was hot water all day. The campsite is lovely, almost right by the sea, and it feels like home to me. Best experience ever!
