Canvas by Mitsis Alexander the Great

The sea here is the most beautiful I've ever seen. I found the whole stay relaxing, and felt well looked after from start to finish. The beach area and pool were immaculate, and fresh towels were always available. I could get bottled water at reception whenever I wanted, which I appreciated. The room wasn’t modern, but it was in perfect condition and spotlessly clean. Every staff member was attentive, polite, and helpful. The beach bar team were especially professional and kind, and also funny. They made fantastic cocktails. To me, this hotel is a real hidden gem, and I’d recommend it to anyone after a beautiful, carefree holiday in Greece. Some of the other reviews don’t match my experience at all. This place deserves more recognition.

The gardens were well maintained, with plenty of space to walk around the complex. There’s a children’s play area, electronic arcade games for older kids, and a room for board games or reading. The rooms were clean and serviced daily, with fresh towels each day and bed linen every two days. We booked a triple room, which seemed about average in size. Guests can see the room size when booking. The beach was gorgeous, with crystal-clear blue water I’ll miss. You can get there by steps from the main restaurant, a golf cart, the pedestrian path past the Taverna, or the steps from the Taverna. For the return, reception can send a cart within five minutes, or you can walk back via the Taverna. The steep steps are a challenge, but not as hard as some comments suggest. The lack of sunbeds came from people leaving things on them and then disappearing for the day. Management said they’d clear them after an hour without anyone present, which seemed fair. The beach bar staff handled orders politely, and the pool bar bartender was great. There were snacks, drinks, and ice cream. In the evening bar, two bartenders made careful cocktails, and a guest band played well-chosen music. Food in the main restaurant was very good, including fruit, salads, main courses, and drinks from the machine. I especially enjoyed the roast lamb, octopus in tomato sauce, Greek pasta, salmon, Mediterranean fish, and roast pork fillet. The ice cream was great too. We also went to the TAVERN, where you can try selected Greek dishes. The booking is made 24 hours after CHECK IN, and an email gives you the date and time. From arrival to departure, we had a great vacation at Mitsis Alexander the Great. The man at the gate quickly showed us our parking spot, and check-in took no more than five minutes. Use Online Check-In before you arrive. A kind man brought our huge luggage to the room in a golf cart, and within 25 minutes we were at the beach with drinks and ice cream. I was there with my family at the end of August. I wrote such a long comment because some reviews don’t reflect the atmosphere or the efforts of the staff and management to give guests a really good holiday. Breakfast was our favorite meal, with plenty of choice. Drinks were well covered too: three coffee machines, two soft drink machines, and another with still juices like pineapple, cherry, apple, and iced tea. There were three open bars, by the pool, at the beach, and on the roof, with the rooftop one serving until 01:00 am. They had soft drinks, wine, beer, alcohol, cocktails, and snacks between meals. The beds were quite comfortable, and staff were friendly and patient with all our questions. We paid 1050€ all inclusive for a five-day stay. The hotel is quite old, and the furniture is old as well. We didn’t get to try any fish, which was a little disappointing. The stairs down to the beach exhausted us, and that was the worst part of our stay.

The elevator wasn't working, but we knew that before booking, and in the end it gave us some exercise. We stayed seven days with our family, and the view from the hotel was fantastic. Staff were very kind, and the beach and crystal-clear water were amazing. We don’t eat pork and had been unsure about the food, but there were pleasantly two or three other choices, including fish, beef, and lamb. My eight-year-old daughter loved the beach and sea, the excellent staff, and the dancing with live music at night. The third bed could be better.
