The owner was helpful and easy to reach, and we thought this was very good value. Our apartment had a kitchen, TV, oven, terrace, air conditioning and hairdryer, with free parking on site. There’s also a gym and a shared washing machine in the basement. The beachfront complex is in Maleme, 6 km from Platanias, with a pool and a restaurant right across the way. We didn’t hear noise from it at night, so sleeping was no problem. Highly recommended.

Terrible. For the last few years, they have kept a poor horse in a playground without shade, with little to eat or drink and no proper conditions. The Cretan police and several Cretan animal shelters have been contacted.

Andreas and the team made our holiday so lovely. The staff treated us wonderfully, and the condo was perfectly clean after every sandy day out in the city. We were also very close to the beach, and could enjoy the view right from our own condo.

A really good place to stay with children. The pool was a bonus when the sea waves were sometimes too strong for swimming.

Good value for the price, and it covered the basic needs. The host was helpful, but didn’t mention the air show that happens every year on 20 May. On a sleepy Sunday, a fighter jet started circling overhead, with an incredibly loud F-16 noise. Our three-year-old was frightened and crying; it took her a week to get over loud sounds, and now getting her onto an airplane takes a lot of work. Apart from that once-a-year show, it’s a kid-friendly hotel: the pools have a children’s area, and there’s a playground and a pony next door. The nearby tavernas serve good food. We liked both Mythos restaurant and taverna Malame. A non-touristy supermarket is a 5-7 minute walk away, and two touristy ones are about 50 metres from the hotel. Chania is around 30 minutes by bus, though you’ll need a car to see more.
