Hiona Studio N2

One building, three different places: Hiona cottage, Hiona studio, and Hiona tavern. I stayed in Hiona cottage. It felt secure and had an amazing view, especially at night. The moonrise was beautiful from there. It’s right next to the sea, but the tavern noise runs from 11 am till 24 pm, and visitors keep passing by, so there’s no privacy. If you don’t mind noise, it could suit you. If you want quiet and privacy, it won’t. Ants also come into the room as soon as there’s something to eat.

The stone cottage stayed cool even when it was warm outside, and the patio was a lovely place to read in the afternoons after windsurfing at Kouremenos beach. We were there in May 2019 and found it peaceful, away from the crowds, yet close to several places to eat, including the excellent restaurant next door. It’s compact but had what we needed, from a coffee pot and kettle to a stovetop, small oven, and shower. Housekeeping came twice a week, and the first time they even brought us a cake. We had plenty of wonderful Cretan food and a really relaxing break.

The seaside location is a big part of why we keep coming back. We’ve eaten at the restaurant several times, and dinner there has become a tradition whenever we’re in the area. The people are amazing, the food is amazing, and both the fresh fish and meat dishes are great.
