We arrived at the agreed time and found that the router passcode didn’t work. The reason was simple: there was no router in the apartment. I tried contacting the owner through booking.com and got no answer. I also spoke to an elderly man who occupied the whole ground floor, but he couldn’t help and didn’t know the owner. I speak and understand a little Greek, and later found out this man was the owner’s father. I eventually found a Wi-Fi connection about 600 metres away and waited over an hour for a reply. Nothing came, so we left the next morning and found another apartment. Five days later, we got an abusive message claiming a technician had visited several times, found no Wi-Fi problem, and left a note under the door with a code for “the buildings router.” I had checked the smart TV’s Wi-Fi while trying to sort things out, and it was coming from downstairs. We’d already left before the note appeared, and the signal was so poor you couldn’t watch a full YouTube video, let alone handle ferries and booking.com. I replied through booking.com and got an even more abusive message. The owner complained about sand on the floor as proof we’d had a wonderful beach visit. We never even got to the beach. He insisted we stayed for the whole booking and were lying to get a refund, and said surveillance video showed the whole thing. The area felt nearly derelict and under gentrification, with no amenities. The closest shop was almost 3 kilometres away. We lost a lot of time and money, then got insulted and lied to. This has made me so angry that I’m going to look into getting the place shut down. Stay clear of these people.
