Samos Sun Hotel

We loved the hotel, and the room was very clean with an amazing view. It’s close to the Pythagorion center, but the walk takes about 30 minutes, so you still need to take a taxi or rent a car. Breakfast was a bit disappointing: some food seemed to have been sitting out for a long time and wasn’t fresh, and there was mold on the olives.

We left very disappointed. The hotel was sold as a 4*, but it didn’t even feel like a 3*. The tourist tax charged on the spot was the 3* rate, 1,5/person/day, and they required cash. The building wasn’t in good general condition or especially well maintained. On arrival the jacuzzi water was murky yellow, and it took several days to get it cleaned. Broken marble floor tiles created a dangerous difference in level. The bathroom towels and floor mat were worn and stained. The restaurant chairs were damaged and stained, as were the tablecloths. The all-inclusive claim didn’t match our experience. We had to pay 3€ for a frappe, which is just cold coffee. The buffets were the same each day, especially breakfast but also other meals, and empty dishes weren’t refilled even with 45 minutes of service left. Snacks supposedly available all day amounted to tiny pieces of cold pizza or microscopic cheese puffs, with a limit of two per person. Wifi was very bad, with no stable connection. We paid 10€ for one washing machine load and waited 48h for the laundry, which came back still wet and smelling bad. There was an electrical problem in our room from the start, but it wasn’t noticed until 24 hours later. We had to sleep without air conditioning, with a temporary repair making an unbearable noise in the electrical panel. A sewer smell persisted in the bathroom for several days before anyone fixed it. In the other room, used by the second family, we had to ask repeatedly and wait more than 4 days to get the air conditioning repaired. Despite our precautions, the heat brought 5 cm cockroaches into that room in the evenings. Staff were too lazy to do anything. Since the cockroaches still hadn’t been found, we had to sleep one night with all 4 of us in one room because the other was impossible to use. The shower head was unscrewed and the hair dryer defective. The staff were clearly understaffed and didn’t communicate well when problems came up. Reception was regularly unattended, despite the promised 24/7 reception.

The people were the nicest I’ve met so far, and we had a great stay in a beautiful hotel. The room was clean and the pool was amazing. There’s a bus from the hotel to Pythagorion, with a pickup for the return trip. A supermarket is next door and the beach is nearby. I would have liked more vegetarian meal options.

We stayed here for 15 days, and the staff were friendly and always keen to help. The bartender, one of the boss’s two sons, even knew some proper Dutch words and sentences. The hotel is almost fully renovated. It’s a peaceful, easygoing place, with a good bar serving standard drinks like beer, wine, and black coffee. The food was fresh and offered a wide range. Some people complained about variety, but I don’t agree, since you can’t compare it with a five-star restaurant. Drinks such as cappuccino and smoothies cost extra. The only downside was the wifi, though we didn’t really come here to socialize by phone.
