Calla Luxury Seafront Suites

We stayed in four hotels during our Crete holiday, and this was our favourite. With just a few rooms, it felt personal, and the staff were always welcoming and ready to help. The rooms were spacious, modern, clean, and luxurious, with elegant decor. We loved the automatic curtains, which let us see the sea in the morning without getting out of bed. There was always plenty of space for loungers by the pool or on the beach, just across the main road. The hotel also offered waiter service on the beach for food and drinks. Rethymnon was about a 20-minute walk away, and we had plenty of bars and restaurants close by as well. Fresh water and coffee for the machine were brought daily, often with a sweet treat too. It was a wonderful stay, and we’d strongly recommend the hotel. Thank you!

The manager and staff were genuinely friendly, helpful, and apologetic about the problems we had. They gave us wine, chocolates, and olive oil to say sorry. Still, the stay was only okay for us, and with these issues it didn’t feel quite like a luxury stay. We booked a loft suite with a sea view, and it looked just like the photos. The rooms were new, modern, clean, and nicely decorated. The view and balcony were good, the bed was comfortable, and the shower had hot water and strong pressure. The steep stairs were awkward, especially if you’re older. The bedroom was upstairs and the toilet downstairs, so it was worth being careful in the dark. There were no ventilation fans in the shower or toilet, and the drains in both smelled terrible. The whole suite had a foul odor when the balcony door was closed, though opening it helped a lot in the good weather. The lack of ventilation may also have caused a false fire alarm at 1:30am. We were jolted awake by an ear-piercing alarm that we thought was a burglar alarm. It rang for about 20 minutes. No staff were on site overnight, so guests had to phone the manager to get someone to come. We were awake for around 90 minutes in the middle of the night. A guest in a neighboring suite had taken a hot shower, and the steam set off the smoke detector and fire alarm. Thankfully there was no fire, though nobody tried to tell us to evacuate. On our first night, we found sand in the bed sheets. The manager said they’d been changed before we checked in, but didn’t know why there was sand in the bed.

The people running Calla made this stay especially memorable. The family welcomed us warmly from the moment we arrived, offered local tips with a smile, and were always happy to go the extra mile. We felt looked after and welcomed like family, not just guests. We spent eight nights there between late July and early August. The suite was elegant, modern, and spotless, but still comfortable and homey. Waking up to that beautiful sea view was a treat, and the room design and amenities showed real care. The location is right on the seafront, with a short walk to Rethymno’s old town, beaches, and restaurants. It’s close to everything while still feeling quiet and relaxing. More than a beautiful place to stay, Calla is somewhere you feel appreciated and cared for. Highly recommended, and we’ll definitely return.

The beach is right across the street, and there are hundreds of restaurants nearby serving all kinds of food. The staff were responsive, respectful, and attentive, so we never had to wait for anything. They were incredibly kind and willing to do whatever we needed, and they surprised us with little treats each day. I’d come back just for them! The hotel has been recently renovated, and the rooms were lovely, comfortable, spotless, and fresh. You could tell a lot of care had gone into the rooms and shared spaces.
