Makris Apartments

The place itself could have been worth five stars, but what happened made this a very bad stay for us. There was no bus from the airport, so we had to pay 90 euros for a taxi. The location is very good and close to the beach, but there’s a dirty creek beside it. If you leave the balcony door open, flies and mosquitoes from there swarm into the room. One night, while we were sitting on the balcony, I shut the door to keep the flies out, and it locked. I tried everything but couldn’t open it, so I had to spend the night outside with my pregnant wife. I called the numbers we’d been given many times. Someone finally answered around 2 a.m., but spoke Greek and hung up after I explained what had happened. At 6 a.m. another person answered and told me to be careful when closing the door, which seemed absurd. He said he was away and would send a friend. The friend finally arrived and opened it at 7:30 in the morning. Having our holiday go this way was awful. When we later asked how to get to the airport for our return, we were told to take a taxi. I asked if they could book one for us but got no answer, and my message still hasn’t been answered. We booked it ourselves and were glad to leave in the end. Extra: After I posted this negative review on booking, they asked me for an additional fee, claiming I hadn’t followed their room policy. A complete disgrace. Staying there would have been the biggest mistake of your life.

For the price, the hotel could have earned five stars, but our experience was so bad that I can’t give it that. One night my husband and I were stuck outside on the balcony, and it was unbelievably cold. The gate had locked by itself while we were out there. We phoned for help, but nobody came until morning. Then, because my husband left negative feedback on the booking site, they accused him of breaking the lock. If we had broken it, how could we have stayed there for another two days? Did you see a broken lock when you came to open the door? You should be apologizing and trying to make things right for your guests, not making accusations. Definitely a bad experience.

I was transferred here from a Thomas Cook apartment on the Friday before I was due to arrive. There’s very little nightlife and not many English people around. It’s more of a family resort for older guests, which really wasn’t what I’d asked for! Costas and the staff treated me excellently, though. The owner himself seems like a lovely man.

The bed was too firm for me, but otherwise these were lovely, clean apartments with a nice pool and bar area. The beach is clean, and the medium-sized village is easy to reach, with supermarkets, shops, bars, and tavernas. The apartment had the basic amenities we needed, and they cleaned it and changed the towels twice a week.
