The hotel is beautiful and well located, but the customer service made me leave for peace of mind. I felt watched and controlled all the time. I saw staff make a little girl put an apple back on the dining table after she’d taken a bite and was carrying it to her room. Guests aren’t allowed to take breakfast to their rooms, and staff will call you out in front of others if you try. My son wasn’t feeling well one morning, and they made a big deal about preparing a plate for him. If you arrive early, you can leave your things, but you can’t use the facilities. I also saw a family with a late flight having a hard time staying to use the facilities after checkout. I wish I’d read the bad reviews before booking. The beauty, convenience, and price drew me in, but I wouldn’t have stayed if I’d known. I’ve visited 94 countries and around 1,000 cities, and stayed in probably more than 1,000 hotels over my life. I’ve never had such a terrible experience. I left for another hotel at a similar price, just a little higher, inside the city. There was no pool, but the treatment was fantastic. They even cooked for me and made me coffee to make up for what happened at the first hotel. The experience left me so shaken that I won’t book another hotel for more than one night without checking reviews. Getting my refund was another ordeal. They wouldn’t immediately refund my card when they finally agreed to cancel the stay, and called the police on me. I brought a local artist friend to help, and they dismissed the police and promised her the card would be refunded within five days. It still hadn’t arrived after five days, so I emailed them and filed a claim with my credit card company, sending the printed bill and hotels.com cancellation confirmation as evidence. An absolute nightmare.
