Costa Azzurra Hotel

The loft room looks nice, but there isn’t much storage and the ladder up is steep. The air conditioning only cools downstairs, so the upstairs gets hellishly hot. The shower is tiny and has a curtain.

Apart from the disruption, Skala itself was great, with plenty of restaurants and a pebble beach where sunbeds and umbrellas were reasonably priced. We were woken at 4:30 am by two maids arguing and fighting, and the police were called. We ended up in these rooms after the hotel we’d booked shut down because its owner had died. We later learned it had been closed for the whole season, but Tui hadn’t told us. The room was okay. We’re in our 70s and couldn’t use the upgraded suite because it was reached by a steep step ladder. This is rooms above shops rather than a hotel, and there’s no staffed reception.

We had a fantastic stay. Our flights were delayed, and Rania at the desk was so kind and reassuring that it wouldn’t affect our booking, even though Easy Jet had messed us around a lot. The staff were lovely and offered plenty of help and suggestions for Skala and Kefalonia. Breakfast was included at the place next door, where the staff were lovely as well. Our room was spacious and clean, with a balcony overlooking the main strip in Skala. We were two people but got a family room, with a spacious open loft area and its own TV. The location was five-star. I can’t recommend this hotel enough. Thanks again, Rania, for all your help and kindness.

The staff gave great service, and the location is right in the heart of Skala, which is hard to beat. But the rooms don’t feel worth the price. The bathrooms are very old, and there’s barely any space for clothes or other things, especially for a longer stay.
