Makis Hotel

I still don’t know how this place is rated 2 star. We’d been to Skala twice before and had no idea this little gem was here. The hotel was spotless, clean throughout, and well maintained, and I can’t wait to return. The staff were outstanding and so friendly that we ended up learning their names. Katerina brought our drinks from the bar, Alby was always cheerful behind it, and both of them went on to work in the evening restaurant after their day shifts. Stelios, the beach boy, was constantly running between the pool bar and beach beds. They all work so hard. It was my birthday during the week, on the one day the weather was poor. My mother-in-law mentioned it to the staff in passing, and ten minutes later they were playing happy birthday over the sound system and bringing out a cake while they sang to me. We also had lunch there a couple of days, and the food was lovely.

The daytime food was delicious and typically Greek, and we’ll definitely return for that quiet, laid-back, authentic Greek feeling right in the centre of Skala. The hotel looked the best along the seafront, appealing and non-commercial. Our airport transfer was in a gold, air-conditioned minibus and was really comfortable. We were made very welcome. The staff were smartly dressed, friendly, and keen to help. Our room was a good size, spotless, cleaned daily, and had outside seating and everything to hand. Breakfast was amazing with something for everyone. The outdoor space was beautiful, with a nicely sized pool and comfortable places to sit in or out of the sun, plus a lovely bar. Leah was a fantastic host, and her staff were charming and well trained. Special thanks to Eileen at reception, Kertarina the waitress, Alban and Gregory at the bar, Alfred the gardener, and everyone working behind the scenes to keep things clean and feed us. Sorry if I’ve got any names spelled wrong.

Room 101 had a lovely sea view and was surprisingly quiet, even though it was next to the cars. The noise never bothered us. The hotel is right on the beach, with lovely staff and the best finger food ever. Huge congratulations to everyone working hard every day. I can’t wait to come back in 2027!

Best of all was the service, from check-in right through to leaving. Katerania, a wonderful shining star. The hotel is across the road from the beach, and both the rooms and breakfast were very good.
