Villa Victoria - Thassos

The sea view from our room was really lovely, and parking right outside was very convenient. It was mostly shady by afternoon, though the cars got hot during the day. The staff were welcoming and kind, and the place was generally decent apart from the bathroom and the little ants. Sometimes the beach bar parties got loud, but that isn’t the villa’s fault. The bathroom was cramped and a bit dirty. The construction and curtain kept falling, and the shower water was unpredictable, stopping at times and switching between cold and hot. Cleaning each day wasn’t anything special: we were already clean, so they mostly made the beds and put water in the fridge. Once they forgot to lock the door. There were small ants in the room too. Breakfast is served down by the beach bar, not at the hotel, and the choices were moderate. The A/C felt low quality, though it is a hotel. The view was very, very nice, straight out to sea. I forgot to mention there’s no private beach. There are some rocks you can jump from and sunbeds, but you can’t get back up because the ladder is broken. And La Scala is paid! Overall, it’s just a he.

We chose this place for its little wild beach, which was our favorite on Thassos. The water was lovely for morning and sunset swims, with nice fish to see. You can’t sunbathe on the beach itself, but there are sunbeds above it. Getting into the water may be tricky with children, so it seems better suited to couples. We stayed three nights in a deluxe suite with forest and sea views. The hotel is near La Scala beach, where a beach bar takes up the space, so you can’t bring your own umbrella. It’s pretty there, with lots of tables and swings, but quite pricey. The hotel could use better maintenance and cleaning. Breakfast was just OK, you can hear the road from the room, and there was mold in the bathroom. The shelf over the sink was poorly placed, and I bumped my head while washing my face. Water from the shower went everywhere, so we asked for extra towels. We saw a few small ants on the floor, though they didn’t bother us. One night we found a gecko on the wall when we got back, but it quickly disappeared. They actually mean good luck. I’m keeping four stars because of that little beach.

We had an OK stay, but I wouldn’t come back. We were there with my uncle’s family and my grandparents, and overall we had a good time together. The staff were incredibly friendly and all spoke English. But our room had no furnace, while my uncle’s and my grandparents’ rooms did. The rooms were dirty, and ours smelled like a dead animal. We never got rid of the smell. The bathroom was dirty too, and there were ants in the apartment. We told the staff, and the manager said they’d clean better, but we saw no improvement. The hotel breakfast was mediocre at best: the variety was alright and the quality generally OK. We went to La Scala only once during our five-day stay. The beach was incredibly overpriced, about 35€ for a sunbed. We put our aqua shoes on the sunbeds and the staff took them.

The garden is ideal for kids, and the beach is perfect, with no rocks. The apartments are spacious enough and clean, though the bathroom is a bit small. We had a good reception and nice staff. It’s a great place for a holiday with children in Thassos. Just be aware that nearby La Scala beach is very crowded and the music is loud. Otherwise, no complaints.
