Studios La Kastania

The location is ideal if you’re planning to hike to Fengari, the island’s peak, but keep in mind the hike takes 10 h. There’s a lovely, quiet garden in front of the rooms, and from the balcony you can see the sea and watch the sunrise. The rooms are clean and well equipped, and there’s a shared kitchen. A great place to stay on Samothrace!

I found out by accident on my last day that the person in the room beside mine was isolating with COVID-19, and the hosts hadn’t warned anyone in the hostel. During my four-day stay, the blond lady and her husband were rude the whole time. It felt like they thought renting me a room was a huge favor. I wasn’t allowed to run the AC for more than two hours a day, or the blond lady would bang on my door and yell at me in Greek. I won’t stay at this hostel again. I will return to Samothraki, though, because the island is stunning and I highly recommend visiting it.

The hotel is right in the heart of Therma, where lots of backpackers hang out in the evenings, but it was surprisingly quiet inside. Parking right at the hotel was easy. We rented a scooter since it can be hard to reach the best spots otherwise. The owners are a lovely couple, and did everything they could to make our stay good. When we had a problem, they came with us to the pharmacy to translate and showed us where the nearest doctor was. They also had great tips for exploring the island and finding the best beaches. The rooms were nice and very clean, and the cafe next door sells the best pastry on the island.

The rooms are simple and clean, and there are plenty of shops and lovely nature within walking distance. The beach is close too. The owners are really nice and will help with anything you need. I’d absolutely recommend staying at LaKastania!
