The staff made this stay for us, especially Chris (hope I’ve spelt that correctly), the manager. He was warm and helpful, and really went out of his way to make things peaceful and stress-free. Our room faced the lagoon and runway, so we had amazing views of planes coming in. Watching people by the runway get buffeted by the jet blast was endlessly funny. The room was simple and clean, perhaps a little dated, but worked perfectly well. Housekeeping came daily, tidied up and changed the towels. The wet-room shower had reliably hot water. The hotel sits on a wooded hillside across the lagoon from town. It’s about a 15-20 minute walk to the centre, which was far enough to enjoy quiet evenings and the cicadas. Breakfast was a standard buffet, with plenty to eat, and there are lots of more indulgent options in town. The pool was clear, clean, and big and deep enough for a proper swim. We saw staff testing the water and clearing leaves every day. Great value if you want some calm away from town. We’d happily come back.

We felt at home at Anamar, mostly because of the people there, who now feel like our “Greek family.” We’d picked it for the affordable price and weren’t expecting luxury, especially after reading reviews from previous years. The hotel is older and some rooms could use renovation, but we had a wonderful stay. Irene at reception won us over with how much she did to make sure we were happy. All the receptionists were friendly, helpful, and ready for a chat. Mrs. Maria kept our room tidy and clean, always greeting us with a big smile and a warm look. Manager Nikos was professional and made sure we had what we needed to enjoy our holiday. Thanks to him, we felt welcome on the island from day one. There’s plenty nearby, with a supermarket and several Greek tavernas just a few minutes’ walk away. The hotel is up at a higher elevation, so taxis are handy if you don’t want to walk uphill. Skiathos Town and the bus station are easy to reach, and there are a few distinctive beaches close by for days when you don’t want to travel around the island. Being close to the airport also means you can watch planes land and take off during the day. Anamar’s a lovely choice if you want to enjoy the island and get to know Greek culture. We’d be very happy to return to a hotel full of such lovely people.

On our last night, hotel staff moved all of my daughter’s belongings from her room into mine without telling us or asking permission, because they had no rooms available. That was a shocking breach of privacy and respect. The rest of the stay was just as disappointing. The staff were unprofessional and disrespectful, cleanliness was poor, and the facilities didn’t match what was advertised. The price wasn’t justified by the hotel’s quality, and the location wasn’t as convenient as advertised either. This was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. I strongly advise against staying here.

The view of the landing planes was great, and the location itself is beautiful. The receptionists and cleaners were lovely and very helpful. Still, we didn’t get the room we’d booked, and the bathrooms were really old. Using the shower left the whole bathroom soaked. When it’s too hot to walk to town, you need to arrange a transfer or taxi.

The hostess was lovely, and we had a very clean ground-floor apartment with a pretty garden and view. The bathroom was tiny for my large husband, so I’d give it 4 stars rather than 5.
