Casa Quetzalli

Being able to check in much earlier than usual was a huge help after we were worn out from our volcano hike. The location was fantastic, and our room was clean and comfortable. The towels had some stains, though, and the shower curtain was too short, so water spilled onto the bathroom floor. Despite those small problems, we had a pleasant stay at Casa Quetzalli and really appreciated the early check-in.

Our first room at casa quetzalli was in a basement, with mildew and no windows, so it really wasn't what we expected. We contacted the owners, who tried to help by offering to move us to another of their properties. We moved that evening, and the new place had windows for fresh air and no mildew, but still fell short. There were exposed wires connecting the shower head to something, no hot water at all, an extremely hard bed, and very little airflow even with the windows open. We found somewhere else for the last two nights of our booking. They couldn't refund us, which they said was because of Airbnb. I wouldn't recommend staying there. To be fair, they did try to accommodate us, but it didn't work out.

The room was tiny, and even though we had a bathroom of our own, it was outside the room. The shower was cold too. It's a very cheap place, so I guess you get what you expect.

We had the whole building to ourselves for a few nights in low season, and it was excellent value. The rooms are basic, but there's a cute rooftop. Getting in with the keypad was easy, and the on-site caretaker was there. They responded quickly on WhatsApp in English. It's a 15-20 minute walk from central Antigua and away from the other tourist lodgings, though still close to everything. Uber and mototaxi are options if you prefer, both about 30-40Q.
