Hostal Antigua - Hostel

A basic hostal in a great spot in Antigua. The rooms were clean and simple, with fans for the hot weather. Bathrooms were functional, the showers had hot water, and the staff were very nice.

The location is good and it's very quiet. Rooms are nice and simple, but the showers weren't great, and the room got a bit damp with the door shut.

The location is great, right in central Antigua near the central park, arch, and restaurants. There's an upper-floor terrace with seating and a kitchen, plus water and WiFi. We arrived before check-in and they let us leave our bags while we went out. A medium locker can fit a small backpack or valuables, but not full bags. It's reasonably cheap. The dorm for 10 felt crowded, with little room for belongings. There was one men's and one women's bathroom and shower in the room, so there was often a wait. The ceiling fans right beside the lights made them seem to strobe, and it felt stuffy. The dorm room isn't locked, so anyone can come and go. The wooden bunks felt shaky and unsteady when climbing up or down. This is a central Antigua hostel with a great location but very basic room facilities.

We didn't stay at this hostal, but booked two tours and a shuttle through them and were extremely happy with the service. The staff were always incredibly kind and helpful. Both tours, Pacaya and Acatenango, and the shuttle to Panajachel were well organised and left on time.
