Pensativo House Hotel

The pool was a perfect 10/10, and the property itself is stunning, with beautiful design, a good location, and access to Portas amenities. The room, though, was unacceptable. There were stains and squashed bugs on the walls, stains on the curtains and decorative pillow, and I’m not convinced anyone had cleaned the floors. The shower glass was marked with hard water stains. At least the bedding and towels were clean, which is the bare minimum. Service was a mixed bag. A few staff members were delightful and helpful, but most came across as dismissive and unfriendly, close to rude. Customer service didn’t seem to matter to them. It’s a shame, because with clean rooms and more attentive staff, this could be an outstanding hotel.

Our stay included access to the gym and spa at the sister resort, which was a real plus since gyms are hard to find in Antigua. The hotel was great, with spacious, beautiful rooms and working AC. We also thought the location was perfect.

Pensativo House Hotel has a peaceful, intimate feel, with colonial charm alongside modern comforts. The historic house has been beautifully restored, and its courtyards, terraces, and volcano views made a lovely setting. The rooms are spacious and thoughtfully decorated, with wooden beams, colonial-style furniture, and handmade details. The beds, linens, and amenities made for a luxurious stay, and everything felt arranged with privacy and quiet in mind. The restaurant was a highlight at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The food was fresh, flavorful, and nicely presented, with both international options and authentic Guatemalan dishes. Eating on the terrace overlooking Antigua’s rooftops and the mountains made meals feel special. The cocktails and wine selection were enjoyable, whether stopping in for a casual lunch or a romantic evening. The staff were warm, professional, and attentive throughout, from check-in to the dining service. They went out of their way to make us feel at home. Pensativo House Hotel is more than just a place to stay, it feels like a sanctuary. It would suit couples, business travelers, or anyone looking for a refined, restful visit to Antigua. I’d gladly return.

We stayed at the other hotel, casa encantada, and came here for breakfast on the terrace and dinner on Christmas Eve. This is a restaurant review only, and the menu was very good.
