The setting is peaceful and pretty, and we slept well despite the beds being old. We stayed in a two-bedroom cabin with a fireplace. It was cold inside, so we doubled up with blankets from the extra beds. Our first cabin had no hot water, but cabin 22 did.

We waited almost an hour for food at the restaurant, and now it feels too late to leave. The room is freezing, there’s no hot water or Wi-Fi, and the beds are very hard. I’m still at the hotel and just want to get out.

The coffee was good, and the rooms, location, and friendly service were all fine. But I think the cook may have been sick, because the food was off. With the American breakfast, we got buns instead of toast. The eggs, sausage, and bacon were undercooked. When the eggs came back after a second try, they were overcooked, while the sausage and bacon were still undercooked. The pork chops also turned out to be smoked ham.

There were lots of birds in the gardens, and the restaurant was reasonable. The chalets sit around lovely cloud forest gardens, and ours had a bedroom and a lounge with an open fire. A very nice place to stay, cosy too.

The owner and staff were friendly, and the restaurant had good food at reasonable prices. Locals stop in to eat, and the posada is close to biotopo del quetzal. The rooms are well furnished, but really, really humid. Our bedding felt damp, and unfortunately it was like that in every room. That’s the local climate, of course, but it’s uncomfortable. They could insulate better or add AC to dry the place out.
