Hotel Green Monkey - Hostel

The rooms were clean and spacious, with both a fan and A/C, and the price was reasonable. Beyond the name, though, nothing about the place felt like a hostel. There was no interaction or atmosphere at all. Reception closes at 11 and locks the door, which isn't great when you're staying in the main club area and want to go out. The clubs nearby are noisy too, so I'd only stay here to sleep, if that noise doesn't bother you.

The location is good, the WiFi works fine, and the kitchen is okay. The rooms are basic, though, and the bathroom was damaged with only cold water. Music from the club next door was loud, there was no English spoken, and they only take cash. The price is much too high for what you get.

We booked a cheap sunrise trip to Tikal through the attached travel agency, and the guide turned out to be one of the best I've ever had. The staff were nice enough, and breakfast was good enough too. The room was okay for the price, though it felt like an oven, just like Flores did. The noise is what would keep me from coming back. Traffic slowly revs along the road right outside, and voices from the central atrium echo up to every room on every floor. Next time I'd stay off the main road and away from the causeway.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the front office staff spoke excellent English. Our clean room had a TV, ceiling fan, oscillating fan, and AC. It's right in the center of Flores, which makes it a great budget choice for a short stay.
