La Terraza Hostel

The common area is bright and open, with lots of plants, and people socialize there. The rooms are clean but very basic and run down, with nowhere to store anything, so your bags just go on the floor. There's no privacy or safety.

I was disappointed by how this hostel handled my late arrival. Before getting there, I messaged the host through Booking to say I'd arrive later than planned, around 3:00 AM. The host knew the time, but never clearly told me there was no 24-hour reception or that late check-in wasn't possible. I only got the general hostel rules, so I thought it was all okay. At 3:00 AM, nobody was there to let me in. I contacted the host right away and got only, “sorry, we don’t have a 24h reception.” They made no effort to help or find a solution. After I questioned what happened, my booking was simply canceled. I was left outside in the middle of the night with two heavy backpacks from 3:00 AM until 7:00 AM, when I finally found somewhere else to stay. It was unprofessional and unsafe. Travelers arriving late at night need clear information about check-in times.

Trying to sleep here was impossible. The rooftop stays noisy at any hour, like a cheap bar where everyone does whatever they want. The owners don't seem to care.

The location was okay, but the rooms were very dirty, and the bathroom situation was awful. Three dorms shared a single bathroom, with no toilet seat cover and a toilet brush left lying on the floor without a holder. The shower was broken in some way, sending most of the water onto the wall instead of you. I know standards in Guatemala can differ from Europe, but come on, replacing a toilet brush isn't a big deal.
