I paid for four nights in an upgraded room with a balcony through Expedia, but got a moldy, walk-in-closet-sized room instead. They called the exterior hallway a balcony. They refused to refund me. The hotel lied about the room and took my money. The service was horrible, and every other hotel nearby would be better.

I appreciated the help with parking our vehicle and enjoyed the view. I booked through the Wyndham app, but the stay still hasn’t appeared in my Wyndham account.

The lake view was lovely, but that was the only good part. There were signs of bedbugs, the area under the beds hadn’t been swept, and the smell was very unpleasant.

The daytime receptionist was extremely friendly, but our first room was continually sprayed with an artificial scent that was overpowering. The evening receptionist wasn’t very accommodating at first, though eventually showed us another room on the other side of the hotel, near an outdoor bar. Loud music went on until 1 a.m. We’d rather put up with the noise than that smell. This hotel has seen better days and needs a lot of updating. It’s definitely not a five-star place.

Gamaliel at the front desk gave us some of the best hotel service I’ve ever had. He was friendly, spoke great English, stored our bikes safely inside, advised us about Tikal, arranged a car for the self-guided tour we wanted, and phoned our next hotel to book our stay. The room maids also cleaned and serviced our room really well before the second night. We’re visiting from Australia and cycling across Central America, looking for somewhere quiet and comfortable. We’d read mixed reviews, but had a five-star experience over two nights. The hotel is right on the water and close to bars and restaurants. Our clean room was quiet, the beds were very comfortable, the AC was great, and the pool was clean and nice. The shower pressure was weak but acceptable, and there was plenty of hot water. I highly recommend it.
