Casa Hunahpu Apart-Hotel

Everyone on staff was kind and helpful, and we liked the welcome drink. Our room was clean, though it had a bit of a smell, which is why we gave four stars. Otherwise, it’s a good place to stay. The tuk tuk to Flores costs 5 Quetzal.

The service was great, and the rooms were nice and clean. Having A/C was a big plus, since it isn’t common in Guatemalan hotels, and the cable was really good too. The weak WiFi and cold showers were drawbacks. I also found something worrying: there was an electrical box installed inside the shower, and sometimes turning the knob gave us a shock. I’m not sure if that was just in our suite. Apart from that, the place was great.

Casa Hunahpu has been such a peaceful, beautiful place that I never expected to find when I switched hotels in Petén to explore more and write more reviews. I was treated exceptionally well, and the bungalow-style room was incredibly comfortable. It has two bedrooms, a master with a double bed and another with bunk beds, both with air conditioning. There’s a small electric stove, a refrigerator, and a water heater. Drinks are stocked in the fridge, and snacks are left at the breakfast bar for when you want something, but everything has a price. It could work well for a stay over a week, since it’s practically a small house and even has a sink for washing clothes. The pool is small, more for relaxing than swimming. There’s also a terrace looking out toward the lake, with the fairgrounds in between. It’s a lovely view.

The apartments have very basic amenities. The beds are poor quality, the drains clog easily, and ventilation problems make it excessively hot. There were mosquitoes too. I wouldn’t recommend staying here for several days or longer.
