The room was great and housekeeping was generally good, though some towels were torn and should’ve been replaced. Breakfast barely changed over my seven days, and for the first few days it was served on paper plates, which didn’t feel right for a four-star hotel. My stay was decent, but the hospitality was a concern. On the first day, the receptionist was rude and didn’t explain things properly when I asked about early check-in after arriving quite early. She said housekeeping only starts at 11:30 AM, so they couldn’t prepare the room sooner, and asked me to return at 12:30 PM while she’d “see if it could be arranged.” That explanation seemed surprising for a four-star hotel. After the shift changed, a kind gentleman at the desk helped me check in at 11:15 AM. Overall, staff seemed to lack basic hospitality skills, which affected the experience.

HKU station is the closest MTR stop, about a five-minute walk away. Google Maps sometimes points to Sai Ying Pun, around ten minutes on foot, but HKU is more convenient. There are plenty of restaurants and a 7 eleven nearby too. We were a group of eight, including older relatives and a child, and booked three rooms for four nights. The stay was comfortable and pleasant. Rooms were clean and quite spacious by Hong Kong standards, and housekeeping kept them in good shape. Room service was prompt. Breakfast was decent: vegetarian choices were limited, but what was available was fresh and tasty. Reception staff were friendly and helpful, which made check-in and coordinating for a large group easy. A good option for families and groups, with room size, cleanliness, and access all working well.

Handy for picking up food nearby, and the room still felt spacious with a third sofa bed in it. The location is great. They don’t provide amenities under government rules to reduce single-use plastic, though other Hong Kong hotels have found more innovative ways to handle that. The hotel feels run-down overall and is expensive.

Getting around is easy: the tram stop, bus stop, and MTR station are all just a few meters away. There are plenty of places to eat within walking distance, from local and Indian food to cafés and casual restaurants. Best Western Plus Hotel Hong Kong is a somewhat older property, but the rooms are comfortable enough and the washroom was very clean and well maintained. For the money, it’s a good practical choice, with clean rooms and convenient access to transport and food.

The Superior room gave us an ocean view, lots of storage, and, best of all, two chairs so we could both relax. It was much bigger than rooms at the average hotel. The location is great, with lots of places to eat nearby. The hotel overall is dated and the hallway has a strange smell, but our room was fresh and clean, and housekeeping did a good job. The only thing we didn’t like was the bath towels. The newer batch looked nice, but wasn’t cotton and didn’t dry well.
