It's a cheaper option, and once you find the place the location is good, though it took me a while. If you're used to hostels and can handle six people packed into a closet-like room, noisy bunkmates, and bathrooms with a suspicious smell, it may work. You get what you pay for. If you can afford to stay elsewhere, do that.

The shared room was tiny, and the air conditioner dripped until the floor was wet. I was not comfortable at all. Worst room I've had in Hong Kong.

The gate and room locks are high-tech, and checking in was smooth. There's a phone on the door; you call the posted number and the attendant or owner helps from there. The password is given to the customer, and they no longer require identity documents. Checkout works the same way. Still, I think having an attendant there in person would make for better assistance. The toilet was awful, with grime, mold, and a bad smell. The floor was wet, and no towel was provided.

The room hadn't been cleaned when we arrived, so we waited an hour to check in. We weren't given check-in instructions either. It was dirty, smelled bad, and had a small bathroom. The one good thing is the convenient location near the station and night market.
