Hotel Plaza San Martin

If you need to stay near the embassy, this is a great choice. The hotel is clean and beautiful, with lovely views over the city. Breakfast was great and the staff were friendly. Highly recommended for the area.

The old fashioned interiors are classic, and the place was very clean. Breakfast is basic, but the WiFi is good and the underground parking feels secure. Sleep is another matter: sound comes right through the single pane windows, with awful music from the bar next door until midnight and dogs barking all together at 6am.

The rooms and service were nice, but I can't recommend the location. An open air food court at the end of the street plays live “music,” really more like noise, at a very high volume until midnight, and until 2am on weekends. With the single glazed windows, sleeping is out of the question. I won't return, and the same goes for the two or three other hotels in the area.

Service was great, and the food was good, though a bit pricey compared with local restaurants. The elegant colonial decor even carries over to the room door, which has three green windows. I didn't care about the look, but at night they let in all the light. The room's balcony window has a thick curtain that does block light, but its old door lets outside noise through. The balcony itself is nice. The shower pressure was poor, especially at normal busy times. There's not much nearby to see on foot. They don't recommend going for a walk, but I wanted a baleada and it wasn't on the menu.
